Introductory Call
We start with a 30-minute call to discuss your application, workflow, or engineering challenge.
The goal is to understand your needs, answer initial questions, and determine whether an engagement is a good fit.
The introductory call is complimentary.
Agreement & Getting Started
If we decide to work together, we confirm the scope, hourly rate, and billing terms before work begins, and set up any agreements and access needed to get started.
No charge for agreement and initial setup.
Discovery & Assessment
The engagement begins with a focused discovery of the current environment, which may include the application, code, integrations, or workflows.
The goal is to identify key constraints, risks, and opportunities for improvement before planning the work.
Consulting work from this point forward is billed hourly.
Findings & Recommendations
The findings are organized into clear recommendations, prioritized by business value and technical risk.
Recommendations may include technical improvements, modernization opportunities, workflow changes, integrations, or process improvements.
Scope & Implementation Plan
If you want to move ahead, we define the scope and priorities for the next phase.
The work is broken into manageable increments, each with an expected range of effort. The plan can evolve as the work progresses, with priorities and costs always visible.
Implementation & Collaboration
Implementation can be handled directly or alongside your existing engineering team. For projects requiring additional capacity or specialized expertise, I can bring in other experienced software engineering professionals while remaining directly involved.
Work is completed incrementally, with regular communication around progress, priorities, risks, and next steps.
Review & Next Steps
The review covers the work completed, any remaining priorities, and recommended next steps. From there, the engagement can continue with another phase of work, move to ongoing support, or conclude.
Flexible, Hourly Consulting
Consulting work is billed hourly, allowing the scope to adapt as the work evolves.
Before beginning a phase of work, you'll get an expected range of effort based on the information available, with advance notice before that range is significantly exceeded.
